Behind ev

Anonymous Patient

I went to the emergency room due to severe abdominal pain that had suddenly worsened over several hours. Upon arrival, the waiting room was extremely crowded. After triage, I was told that it could be several hours before I would be seen by a physician. The environment was stressful with patients were visibly uncomfortable, some lying across chairs, and families appeared anxious and uncertain about how long they would need to wait. There was limited communication about expected wait times. I ended up waiting approximately eight hours. During that time, my pain continued to increase, and I felt physically and emotionally drained. This experience also affected my family. They were worried and felt helpless watching me in pain without clear updates or reassurance.

Ever experienced long ER wait-times?

You're not alone
the wait-time for hospitals in Edmonton is 4+ hours on average. This is a widespread issue that people on all sides of Edmonton face, leading to frustration, anxiety, and patient dissatisfaction
Why does this happen?
long ER wait-times don't jsut have a single root cause, rather, a web of complicated issues. This includes underfunded hospitals, overworked staff members, and miscommunication regarding when going to the emergency room in necessary.
What are we doing to fix this issue?
the Waitlisted Initiative aims to solve this issue by educating the public, amplifying the voices of stakeholders, and advocating for timely access to care to be the standard.
